Avoid the universal-conversion rule
Different print workflows accept different inputs and perform color conversion at different stages. The Let’s Enhance print guide describes RGB output. That is a useful boundary, not evidence that every printer wants the same conversion afterward. Ask the receiving printer for its instructions, including any profile or export preset. Do not assume that selecting a generic CMYK option is always an improvement. An uninformed conversion can introduce another variable without solving the actual handoff requirement.
Keep color decisions traceable
Retain the original master and identify which file has been converted or adjusted. Record the intended profile when relevant to the workflow. Avoid comparing files in different viewers and concluding that enhancement alone caused every visible change; display settings and color handling can differ. Inspect the final export using an appropriate process and seek the printer’s guidance where needed. This guide does not certify a calibrated display or a color-managed production environment.
A vivid-artwork example
A fictional poster uses a saturated blue that looks striking on a screen. The artist should not assume that an enlarged raster file guarantees the same appearance on a chosen paper. Ask for a suitable proof and evaluate the actual print. If adjustments are needed, make them deliberately and retain the approved version. Do not repeatedly enhance the image to chase a display-to-paper mismatch that may belong to color handling or the physical print process.
Approve the right evidence
Record which paper, process or proof conditions informed approval when they matter. A small screen preview is useful for layout but cannot settle every physical color question. If the printer requests a different export, create it from the controlled master and check the resulting file. Keep image fidelity, file dimensions and color reproduction as separate acceptance conditions. That separation makes it easier to fix the right problem without damaging parts of the image that were already satisfactory.
A profile is part of the workflow
The International Color Consortium describes profiles as information used to transform color between device spaces. That supports a workflow-specific handoff, not a universal instruction to convert every image to the same CMYK space. Adobe’s printing guidance likewise separates application and printer color management. Use the receiving printer’s instructions and avoid adding an unverified conversion merely because the result is intended for paper.
